Do I need to speak French or any other languages during my internship? The official working language at Gavi is English. However, additional languages can be particularly useful within some teams.
Does Gavi accept internship applications from international students? In Geneva, our international organisation status allows us to provide work permits to candidates from anywhere in the world. In Washington DC, we are able to hire international students who study in the US and already have a J-1 visa.
Is the internship paid?Interns who are not sponsored by their university qualify for a fixed Gavi stipend intended to cover the cost of basic living expenses during the internship. Interns are responsible for finding their own accommodation and will need to cover the full cost of travel to Geneva/ DC and related documents.
International interns in the US are required to have a social security number in order to receive a stipend. Unpaid internships (sponsored by university or another entity) do not require a US social security number.
Do I need medical insurance? Our interns in Switzerland and the U.S. are expected to provide proof of medical insurance coverage for illness and accident for the duration of their internship. Gavi will not be liable for any injury, disability or death suffered by an intern or for any medical or hospital expenses, which may be incurred in the course of the internship.
Can I apply anytime of the year? The need for interns by different teams arises all year long, therefore the best way to keep yourself updated is to regularly visit our vacancies page.
Our clients include small and mid-size companies or start-ups that are dipping their toe into international waters for the first time, as well as Fortune 500 companies with upwards of 10,000 employees who regularly travel and work internationally. For large organizations, overseas assignments can require hiring or relocating employees to and from a dozen or more countries.
Staying on top of the regulatory requirements for business travelers and international expatriates is a complex process. Mayer Brown uses advanced technology to help clients get the job done and to provide them with customized reporting employing traffic light coding to simplify tracking of key deadlines. We also develop key compliance training tools online, for high-risk issues such as management of global traveler programs or certification of third-party supplier compliance with governing visa laws.
We are regularly asked by our clients to audit their internal processes for immigration compliance and to develop remediation plans for both regulatory compliance and cost optimization. We also prepare our clients for government audits, and our shared IT portal includes a repository of the documents that officials typically require.
